The most recent Youth Unemployment Statistics reported that 475,000 young people aged 16-24 in the UK are unemployed. The pandemic negatively impacted young people’s employment opportunities massively, as they were affected through the long closures of hospitality, retail and travel restrictions. Training young people and improving their skills is vital and businesses have a great opportunity to help contribute to the workforce of their future.

Kickstart Scheme

Kickstart Scheme

The government’s ‘Kickstart Scheme’ allows 16 to 24 year olds who are currently on universal credit to apply for a 6 month work placement. Allowing young people the opportunity to develop skills, set goals for their career and get guidance on how to write a CV. We are proud to be engaging with this scheme to contribute to the development of the young workforce. Logos currently have four kickstarters with us across roles in case making, caretaking, marketing and health & safety.
We've had our Kickstarts as part of our team for going on 3 months now, and they've been an amazing addition to the team. We've asked one of our Kickstart employees about their experience so far and how they are finding work at Logos:
"I have found the scheme to be very helpful as it has helped me get a work opportunity with a great company. Having the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace and learn new skills, with the potential of a job at the end of the placement.
Working for Logos has been very enjoyable, the people are nice and supportive, I feel comfortable talking to anyone and am able to work well with my colleagues."
Innovation

Innovation

Bringing young people into your business allows for a new perspective and insight into the current market and new innovations. Logos believe in the pursuit of understanding what it takes to become a great and enduring company, and new innovation can help us do this.
As a business that has been operating for 18 years, Logos are always looking for ways to improve our processes, and young people can contribute to these changes.
Collaboration

Collaboration

Having a range of ages in a workforce brings diversity, allowing workers to learn from one another with a mixture of experience. Team working can be enhanced when there is a wider range of ages working together. At Logos we believe two heads are better than one, and the strength of the team is in our uniqueness as individuals. We welcome communication across all areas in the business and we recognise how valuable it can be to share ideas and experiences with one another to enhance the business.
Logos believe in a progressive society that works towards fairness and inclusion. By giving our employees the experience of intergenerational working we believe everyone’s team working and communication skills will develop.
Consolidation

Consolidation

Current employees can benefit greatly from having a young person joining their team. The requirement to teach someone else a skill you possess, in turn deepens your own understanding and confidence in your skills.
Being able to explain and demonstrate tasks that an employee has been doing for years, gives them the time to revisit their process to adapt if required and improve.

Hiring young people is beneficial for them and to your business. Logos look forward to expanding our young workforce in the coming months and would welcome a conversation with any business that is considering developing the young workforce and would like to learn from our experience so far.
